Murre Guitar Builds

See the evolution and development of past builds

Everyone starts with a Tele build

First you try to recreate what they made just to see if you can. This body was constructed using birch plywood and maple. The neck was purchased premade.

Then move on to a Strat style

This was a challenge because of the routing for the floating bridge. Many mistakes were made on this build and it was the first attempt at building a neck. Despite its flaws there is something special about this guitar and it is a joy to play.

You have to try the Les Paul body

These guitars were great to build and the Les Paul flat top is simple to work with. The blue one was the first attempt at the Murre headstock and it turned out well.

Eventually breaking out and making modifications to suit your style

The first attempt at the Murre single cut body. This guitar had a walnut top on an acacia body and it turned out well.

Building on those modifications

I sourced Sapele Mahogany form a local supplier and I just had to build a plain looking guitar to show the beautiful wood grain.

A laminated neck is a good way to enhance the look

Building on past projects I wanted to take the neck construction to another level and attempt a laminated neck. I was very happy with the results.

Then the vision is finally completed

This guitar for now will be called the MSC1. It is everything that I wanted to do with a build including the laminated neck, and the maple top with blue stain. I also removed the telecaster style control cavity and went with the cavity on the back for a cleaner look.

Replicate it until you get it perfect

The purple MSC1 build was excellent. It was a near flawless build and the guitar plays very well.

“My guitar is not a thing. It is an extension of myself. It is who I am.”
